F.W.I.?

"Some of the reporters covering tonight’s presidential debate at Hofstra University in Long Island

may be F.W.I.–filing while intoxicated. Anheuser-Busch is apparently a sponsor of tonight’s rhetorical

battle and the beer company has set up a “hospitality tent” outside the media filing center where reporters are being treated to free food, brews and souvenir glasses."

Filing While Intoxicated! Can they be ticketed for that? Doubtful. Their Press Passes are probably some sort of "Don't Ticket Me, Bro," and "Stay out of Jail Card." Gives new meaning to "Power of the Press."

But this little bit of insight just might explain a couple of things about... 1) The content/nonsense of some reports you read about the debates. 2) Why reporters have reportedly been clamoring for these assignments. Yeah, who doesn't want to get in on free souvenir glasses?

It's good to be the Prez!

Looking to improve on his last effort, BO is hunkered down in a not-undisclosed bunker practicing/rehearsing and missing his favorite toy. (His teleprompter.) Naturally, in keeping with his image as "one of the folks," his choice of bunkers in which to hunker, is a doozey.

And the bunker's got bunkers! Very well-kept bunkers I hasten to add. Maybe those bunkers allow him time to get his very bright mind off trivial matters like terrorist/not terrorist attacks, security briefings, budget deficits, whiney heads of foreign countries, etc., etc., etc., and concentrate of his new plan of debate attacking.

Care to guess which part of that quote caught my attention? (I have a high level of confidence you did.)

I watched most of the debate. I was curious to see if Joey B. would open his mouth and proceed to step on his tongue. He disappointed me, in a nice way. My first impressions were echoed all over the innernetz and TV. Not that I needed validation. I found him to be arrogant, overbearing, overly aggressive, and not a man I like to think of as "one heartbeat from the Presidency."

His lack of manners and civility were both maddening and distracting. His body language, phony expressions and BS smiles were bad showmanship. I thought was that he was trying to mimic Regans's remark, "There you go again...", without audio.

Ryan was indeed polite. Almost to the point of being deferential. And I think he missed a great opportunity. Had it been me, when Joey pointed to the fact that Ryan's home state used stimulus money for projects and seemed to want to make that a bad thing, I'd have asked, "What were we supposed to do? You wanted the funds used, you made them available and we accepted. We actually helped your administration." And then ticked off how stimulative the money was. In Wisconsin. But then I'm not a debater.

Admirable goal

This has been a Public Service Announcement. I love doing Public Service work. I think we should have a National Public Service day. We could hold Town Hall meetings. Figure out how to get our Public Servants to serve the Public more. And better.

Last Night's Debate and Big Bird

Maybe I should have tried watching more of the debate last night. Seems I missed the highlight of the evening. Romney talked about PBS funding and set off a firestorm on the innernetz. Twitters were twittin', gifs were being giffed and Facebookers were liking a new account.

I'm not sure if all this helped or hurt him. Probably depends on which "news" program you watch.

Tonight's Debate

It's now 39 minutes since they started. I planned to watch and, maybe/hopefully learn something. Jim Lehrer has completely lost control and I've lost interest.

Don't we, the voters, deserve more than talking points and 2 guys ignoring, basically, the questions asked and the opponent's answer? Why do candidates think if they keep saying something over and over and over, we'll eventually agree with them?

They argued debated tonight about "studies" by economists. Hell, try getting a group of economists together sometime and see if you can find a consensus. Lot's of luck with that! And we keep hearing every year about this economic theory/plan versus that economic theory/plan only to find ourselves deeper in debt. Nothing working. Including people.
